March and April 2014: East Bay Autism Housing Parent Networking Group Meetings

Meeting held March 1 in Union City:
Ten families attended the meeting. We had more in-depth introductions by each family and description of what they are looking for in the group and the challenges they face in caring for their family member with autism or other developmental disabilities. Information and experience was exchanged between families.
Based on the discussion, we decided to seek more information about Supported Living Services by inviting representatives of SLS agencies to our next meeting. We also discussed a new bill, SB1178, that is just being developed and will focus on public funding for housing.
Meeting held April 5 in Union City:
Twelve families attended the meeting. We had an invited representative from a supported living agency tell us more about supported living services and answer questions. We discussed various scenarios based on our family members' individual needs. We decided that our next meeting should focus on various options for acquiring actual housing if a family is going to use supported living services. We will invite a representative from one of the housing organizations to the next meeting.
Next meeting is scheduled for May 17, 1:30, in Union City. RSVP to ilnjplan@inbox.com Irene
