As our country prepares to elect new leaders on Tuesday, we envision a future where our elected leaders demonstrate compassion, respect and understanding of all citizens, especially those who are unable to speak for themselves. It is beneath the dignity of our country and plainly reprehensible to mock or marginalize people with disabilities.
We are a country that celebrates diversity and helps those who are unable to help themselves. As America sees its population of families affected by autism continuing to escalate, we have much at stake in this and every election. Will those affected by autism be ridiculed and scorned? Or will they be embraced and supported? On Tuesday, please vote, as you examine the issues and the candidates, think about the future of our community and vote your conscience.
